Business Development Manager – Sales Manager – Southeast Asia

 who will drive market penetration, strategic customer acquisition, and capital upgrade growth across the heavy industrial sectors of Indonesia and the Philippines. The core mandate is to aggressively capture greenfield & brownfield opportunities in the Mining and Pulp & Paper sectors.


This role utilizes a network of third-party agents and distributors across the region. Using these agents and distributors, the role will partner with these local teams to build customer relationships at the plant level, uncover specialized machinery upgrade projects, and drive recurring aftermarket revenue.

Business Development Manager

1. Experience &amp; Technical Credentials:

Industry Tenure: Minimum 5 years of proven business development or industrial sales in heavy rotating machinery, large industrial gearboxes, or processing equipment in Southeast Asia.

Sector Expertise: Demonstrated commercial network within the Indonesian and Philippine mining sector, EPC contractors, or pulp & paper conglomerates.

Effective Communication across Levels: Comfortable engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders, from corporate office representatives in Jakarta and Manila to local field agents and plant operations personnel on-site.

Proactive Territory Management: Self-motivated and capable of working independently to manage regional accounts, identify new project opportunities, and see long-cycle sales through to completion.

Communication & Linguistic Agility: Full professional fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory. The ability to negotiate or converse in Bahasa Indonesia or other local regional industrial dialects is a significant competitive asset.

Global Sales, Marketing, Key Account Management

1. Market Penetration into Indonesia & Philippines:

New Build: Connect with EPCs & Engineering Houses active within the relevant sectors to promote MAAG Gear products.

Aftermarket: Identify aging or underperforming competitor gearboxes (e.g., Flender, SEW, Hansen) on critical lines and position MAAG Gear's custom, drop-in replacement solutions as the premium choice for operational reliability.

Key Sectors: Pulp & Paper, Mining, Minerals Processing

Identify, and work with local agents where required to gain access to clients.

Act as the primary commercial anchor and point of contact for independent third-party agents and distributors across the territory.

Equip partners with commercial parameters to resolve local disputes.

3. Aftermarket Execution & Technical Alignment:

Own the regional commercial targets for Aftermarket services &amp; solutions, including drop-in replacements, custom parts, overhauls, and field refurbishments.

Collaborate closely with the regional Service &amp; Technical Lead to triage incoming plant issues, deploy local field crews efficiently, and translate field inspection data into immediate spare parts quotes.

Effective market entry and growth in Indonesia and the Philippines within target sectors

Continuous acquisition of new customers and upgrade opportunities (greenfield & brownfield)

Strong aftermarket revenue growth across services and replacement solutions

Well-developed and productive network of agents and distributors

Robust sales pipeline with high conversion of opportunities into orders

Increased brand recognition and trusted customer relationships at plant and corporate level

Efficient collaboration with Service & Technical teams ensuring fast response and customer satisfaction

With the new ownership and ambitious growth plans, MAAG Gear is looking for an experienced Service Engineer. To fulfill the objectives set for this position, it is necessary to follow the strategies and guidelines laid down by management and the line manager in each case. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining the required standards of quality within relevant legal and operational framework. Despite being able to work independently, it is necessary for the incumbent to form partnerships with other sections, departments and groups, creating trust-based relationships that will facilitate success. All available materials and methods are to be used to ensure the best possible communication and accurate flow of information both internally and externally. The incumbent is responsible for all activities listed in his/her job profile, both working as an individual or as part of a team with relevant competencies.

Field Service Engineer

MAAG Gear is looking to attract an experienced Service Engineer with great technical skills.

A BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent industry experience) and at least 5+ years of field service experience in the machine building Industry, preferably gearbox manufacturing

Deep knowledge of gears and rotating parts,

Honest and self-motivated with a positive attitude and ability to work with minimum supervision.

Outgoing personality and enjoys networking and meeting new people and different cultures.

Ability to interact with personnel across multiple levels in both MAAG Gear’s and our customer’s organizations.

Availability and willingness to travel approximately 75% of the time, including international travels and to remote areas where mines and cement plants are often located.

Ability to tolerate stress due to challenging timelines.

Ability to work legally in the location of interest

Good physical health with ability to stand, walk, climb stairs and lift weight of up to 55 lbs. (25 kgs).

Good vision with ability to identify colors.

Solution oriented with the ability to analyze service requirements and make decisions necessary to achieve successful results.

Deep knowledge of Mining Industry and the Purchasing Culture of the industry

Fluent in English (speak, read, write). The ability to communicate in Spanish will be considered an advantage.

Strong communication skills and able to communicate at all levels within an organization

Highly developed Sales and Negotiation skills

Presentation skills and confidence to present to large groups of people

Experience in selling large gears and mechanical drive technology

Ability to conduct basic mechanical troubleshooting on gearing.

Availability and willingness to travel approximately 45% of the time, including occasional international travel and to remote areas where mines are often located.

Good physical health with ability to stand, walk, climb stairs and lift weight of up to 35 lbs. (16 kgs).

Competency with Microsoft Office. Previous experience with Microsoft CRM will be considered an advantage.

The ASM will have split focus on regional customers (Projects, Aftermarket and Spare Parts), selling to Mining EPCMs, OEMs and Mines.

The ASM is responsible for gathering information relating to the needs and opportunities including the buying culture and processes for all customers in his/her region of responsibility

The ASM will be responsible for developing an overview of the installed base and will be the most knowledgeable person on the region’s opportunities through knowledge of decision makers and creation of strong customer/supplier relationships. Under the guidance of the line manager, this knowledge and relationships will enable him/her to craft sales strategy that will deliver growth in business and profitability.

The ASM actively visits customers in offices and plants to accurately ascertain their challenges, needs and expectations, and to assess how to match MAAG Gear products and services to meet these.

The ASM will identify suitable opportunities and develop technical and commercial offers in collaboration with the proposals group and will present them to the customer and negotiate orders.

All opportunities will be recorded, tracked and updated in CRM by the ASM. He/she will use the CRM to generate monthly sales reports providing hot lists, opportunity volumes, and orders won and lost for submission to the line manager.

The ASM will provide input into sales budgets and be responsible for meeting sales targets set in collaboration with line manager.

The ASM is responsible for identifying new business opportunities and market adjustments that will identify new product development opportunities based on market attractiveness.

The ASM will attend regular regional and sales meetings to share market information and to ensure smooth cooperation between Industries and Regions.
